IN THE THIRD-FLOOR gallery space at the new Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center, the exhibition Shadow on the Glare features work responding to themes of light and place through the diverse perspectives of Oklahoma artists. Shadow on the Glare coincides with the opening exhibition, Bright Golden Haze, and is named for this N. Scott Momaday poem. Momaday, a Kiowa, is from Oklahoma and won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1969 for House Made of Dawn.

Shadow on the Glare is free and open to the public and will be on view March 13–July 6, 2020 at Oklahoma Contemporary.oklahomacontemporary.org

PLAINVIEW: I

By N. SCOTT MOMADAY

There in the hollow of the hills I see,
Eleven magpies stand away from me.

Low light upon the rim; a wind informs
This distance with a gathering of storms

And drifts in silver crescents on the grass,
Configurations that appear, and pass.

There falls a final shadow on the glare,
A stillness on the dark, erratic air.

I do not hear the longer wind that lows
Among the magpies. Silences disclose,

Until no rhythms of unrest remain,
Eleven magpies standing in the plain.

They are illusion—wind and rain revolve—
And they recede in darkness, and dissolve.
