New Class
This year's Green Box Artists in Residence in Green Mountain Falls, Colorado
BY Jezy J. Gray
AFTER GREEN BOX sifted through 231 applications from around the world, the 2022 artists-in-residence cohort has come into view. This year’s resident artists include composer and multi-instrumentalist Matthew Jamal; dancer and choreographer Taryn Vander Hoop; playwright and performer Jessica Kahkoska; photographer-and-audiovisual-artist duo Monica Frisell and Adam Scher; photographer Michael Krondl; and writer and bookbinder Molly Rideout.
Green Box director Scott Levy says this diverse group of artists represents the coming together of a number of factors considered by the organization’s artists-in-residence task force. The decision, he says, orbits around two fundamental questions.
“Can we provide resources that are going to help these artists advance their craft or project? That’s the number-one question,” he says. “Number two is about community engagement. Are the artists going to be able to provide opportunities that are going to enhance the community?”
It’s the second question that animates many of the projects in store for this year’s class. From a rural photo-journal essay by Frisell and Scher to an audio walking tour of Green Mountain Falls by Kahkoska, the 2022 Green Box artists-in-residence will continue the tradition of taking artists’ work out of the studio and into the world. greenboxarts.org
