Arts and Sciences

On August 25, a new public sculpture by artist Tom Shannon was unveiled in front of Science Museum Oklahoma and dedicated to the museum's founder, Oklahoma City philanthropist John Kirkpatrick (1908–2006). Titled Finity, the twenty-five-foot sculpture is interactive, the stacked geometric shapes can be spun by visitors. Shannon, Christian Keesee, Bob Blackburn, and Sherry Marshall spoke at the dedication, remarking on the importance of the intersection of art and science. “It's math. It's physics. It's art. It's culture. It's beauty. It's all of it. There are so many different layers of science to it,” Marshall told The Oklahoman. The sculpture was commissioned by Kirkpatrick Family Fund and is on permanent loan to the Science Museum.
