A Legacy Groundbreaking

Oklahoma City leaders and four adoptable dogs broke ground on February 27, 2025 for the Oklahoma City Louisa McCune Animal Welfare Center, named in honor of the late Louisa McCune. McCune’s work as director of the Kirkpatrick Foundation played a crucial role in securing funding for the $42 million center through MAPS 4, and the 70,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art animal welfare center is expected to open in 2027. With goals to improve flow, safety, and hygiene, facility improvements include separate wings for cats and dogs, a 2,800-square-foot barn and pasture, and four separate entrances for adoption, intake, training, and the clinic.
