Belongings

HOME1947: Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy opened at Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center with a reception in the Eleanor Kirkpatrick Main Gallery on February 22, 2024. The opening included a conversation with Noor Ahmed and Sameer Khan, moderated by Dr. Nyla Ali Khan. Obaid Chinoy will direct the new Star Wars film, to be released in 2026. On display through July 22, 2024, her exhibition explores stories of the millions displaced in 1947 by the Indo–Pakistani War through films, virtual reality, photographs, oral histories, objects and archival documents, and sound. Originally commissioned for the Manchester International Festival in 2017, HOME1947 has been described by The Guardian as “an uncompromising look at lives wrecked by the Partition [of India].”
