Artport
Whitney Museum of American Art / New York, New York
The New York apartment advertised by artists Sam Lavigne and Tega Brain has 65,764 bedrooms, costs $43,869,676,331, and is both a Brooklyn brownstone and a penthouse overlooking Central Park. Their website, which compiles real estate listings from the high and low ends of the market to create a portrait of the city’s living spaces, is the latest online project from the Whitney Museum’s Artport. Established in 2001, it features documentation of net art, new media in the museum’s collections, and commissioned internet-based works. The series Sunrise/Sunset is viewable at dawn and dusk on the Whitney’s home page, including Kristin Lucas’s animated flamingos and penguins playfully raising awareness for seabird conservation as one of the commissioned projects.
